It’s Canada’s Birthday… Happy 145th Year CANADA!!!

YEEHAW!!!

100 years

In Calgary, July is also known as Calgary Stampede time.  This is our clinic’s first Stampede but this is Calgary’s 100th year of celebrating the Stampede.   This is sure to be a memorable one.  We plan to start the tradition of “Stampeding it up” and sporting Stampede attire at the clinic.  Please join us in the celebration.

Small bits of advice: Try the gluten-free, wheat-free, dairy-free options at Stampede.  Stay well hydrated.  Try not to overindulge and take good care of yourself.

Remember we will be here to help you recover quickly and, if needed,  give you IVs to help you make it through the 10 days of fun.

Six cause of dysfunction and disease

nerves imageThere are six stresses on the body that can lead to dysfunction of certain organs or systems of the body.  If dysfunction continues over a period of time, this can lead to disease processes in the body.  The truth is that most disease processes are multi-causal, especially chronic disease, and they occur over time, they do not just spontaneously appear.

Here are the 6 causes of dysfunction and disease:

  1. Physical – structural imbalances, injuries, surgeries, scars
  2. Food intolerances – grains, cow’s dairy, sugar, eggs
  3. Immune challenges – viral, bacterial, fungal, parasites
  4. Heavy Metals – mercury, lead, aluminum, cadmium, arsenic; from our environment, industry and dentistry
  5. Environmental Toxins – pesticides, food additives, food preservatives
  6. Emotional Conflicts – any conflict in a person’s life can leave an imprint on our nervous system

The key to regaining proper function is to be able to identify and remove the stresses on the body.  At Advanced Naturopathic Medical Centre we use a highly specific and advanced therapy to identify and treat the disturbances to proper function in the body called NeuroViscero Regulation Therapy.

Give your Blood a Little Sunshine

Featured Therapy

We are excited to now be offering a therapy called Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation (UBI). This is a natural therapy that has been used in medicine for well over 70 years with significant results and little to no side effects.

This procedure involves taking out a small amount of blood from a patient, then infusing that blood back into the patient, but before we give the patient back their blood, we run the blood under ultraviolet lights.  The bulbs emit UVA and UVC light.

The UVA gives more photonic energy and has an immune balancing effect. When the body is having a difficult time being able to decipher self from non-self , such as in an autoimmune disease, then the UVA helps that body to decrease the attack on itself.  Thus this is helpful for all autoimmune conditions including allergies, rashes, Multiple sclerosis, Lupus, Asthma, Rheumatoid Arthritis etc.  The UVA is also good at modulating the immune system, which is helpful for cancer and fibromyalgia.  The photonic effect helps to increase circulation and oxygenation of the blood, hence being helpful for cardiovascular disease.

The UVC has a germicidal effect.  This means that it is able to kill viruses, bacteria, fungi or parasites.  The infectious agents are killed by the light by tearing apart the DNA strand and causing cross-linking so that it can no longer replicate.  These strands are sent into the body and act to boost the immune system against any other infections in the body.  This is able to occur without causing any damage to the healthy cells. Hence the UVC light is good for treating acute and chronic infections.

Typically the UBI treatments for acute infections are 2 times per week for 2 weeks and for chronic diseases are done once a week for 4 weeks and then re-evaluated.

What is wrong with genetically modified foods?

GMO foodsGenetically modified foods have had their DNA specifically changed by genetic engineering techniques.  Many of the alterations were done to make the foods more resistant to herbicides or viruses to allow for less damage to crops and potentially leading to higher yields.  This sounded appealing to most farmers. The problem has been that these changes were made without the understanding of the possible long-term effects on human health.

These foods are genetically different from their natural origins.  Our bodies have been hard-wired throughout human history to breakdown foods that are part of nature.  When foods are manipulated and changed our bodies have a challenging time recognizing them, properly breaking them down and metabolizing these foods.  Biochemically, the body may see these foods as foreign bodies and treat them as toxins, ultimately making the food of no nutritional value to us.  Or the food can be incorporated into our cellular DNA, which has the potential to cause damage as the altered or manipulated DNA should not be part of our cellular structure.    The possible implications on our health are unpredictable.

Animal feeding tests have shown worrying health effects. Here’s an example: GM sweet corn contains Bt toxins, designed to protect the plant by rupturing the stomach of an insect that feeds on it. Monsanto claims that the toxin will break down before it is consumed by us, but when rats were fed the GM corn they showed organ failure and the toxin have been detected in the bodies of pregnant women. The potential risks of GM foods on our human health are more than troubling and challenging to avoid in North America due to our laxity of our labeling laws.

If you live in Europe, avoiding GM foods is easier since laws require labeling. However in the US and Canada food manufacturers are not required to label if their food is genetically modified or not.
