It can be a healthy response for our body’s to be sick.
If we get food poisoning, when that comes into the body, our body will try to get rid of that infectious agent by causing vomiting and diarrhea. This is a healthy immune response. This is our immune system detecting something that shouldn’t be in our system and causing a response within the body to get rid of that toxic load. This is a healthy immune response when your body is sick caused my food poisoning.
Another example is an infectious agent comes into your body and your body produces a fever. Your body producing a fever is a healthy immune response. Your body is creating an environment that is not conducive for that infectious agent to be able to live, causing the infectious agent to die off. This is a healthy immune response.
We need to redefine what we are considering sick. It is ok for our body to be sick.
When we are talking about the common cold. That infectious agent comes into our body, our body will mount a response, we will create fevers, create lots of mucous, which is another way that our body is trying to get rid of that infectious agent from your system. Our body is creating an environment to remove the infectious agent from the body or will create an environment that will kill that infectious agent.
You want to look at how long you are sick for and how often are you getting sick. This would be a good indication of how well your immune system is working. With the common cold, you should be able to fight off a cold in less than a week and we should be getting sick not more frequently than once a season. So if it takes you longer than one week to fight off an infection or you are sick more frequently than once a season than this is an indication that the immune system is likely depressed.
I know it feels awful when we are sick but it a lot of cases being sick is a healthy immune response, so it is actually ok for us to be getting sick.
