The goitrogenic foods include broccoli, cauliflower, kale, brussels sprouts, mustard greens, radishes, spinach, strawberries, peaches, soy-based foods, peanuts. These are foods that interfere with iodine uptake and suppress thyroid function. There were animal studies that found that the breakdown products of cruciferous vegetables called glucosinolates interfered with iodine uptake by the thyroid. Further research indicated that these cruciferous vegetables are only a problem in cases of iodine deficiency or insufficient iodine uptake.
