A common belief is that consuming dietary cholesterol such as butter, animal protein or eggs can raise your blood cholesterol levels. Another common belief was that high cholesterol is associated with heart disease and lead to clogged arteries. These are both “old” concepts that have been disproven with good science. High cholesterol is not the cause of the heart disease.

Eating foods that contain dietary cholesterol such as butter, animal protein, eggs, will not raise your cholesterol levels. It’s okay for us to be eating foods that contain cholesterol. Our bodies need cholesterol. We need cholesterol to support our cells, our immune function, our hormonal balance. We should not be avoiding dietary cholesterol.
