Cow’s dairy has an addictive component to it.

Cow’s dairy is a food that I typically have my patients avoid. Often when I’m telling patients to avoid cow’s dairy, they have a difficult time with this. I will tell you the science behind cow’s dairy can be challenging to avoid and even when you are avoiding the cow’s dairy you can have withdrawal symptoms because it is such an addictive substance.

Cow’s dairy contains A1 beta-casein, which is a protein that when it is digested it passes into the blood brain barrier and becomes beta – casomorphins. Casomorphins is an opioid peptide similar to morphine which is also an opioid peptide. This has an addictive quality to it and can cause withdrawal symptoms.

This can be why cow’s dairy is difficult for some people to avoid, but it’s also the reason why it should be removed from the diet.
