What is the connection between iodine and cancer?
Iodine plays a key role in a process in the body called apoptosis. Apoptosis is a programmed cell death. This is a process that most cells naturally have. The problem is that cancer cells do not have this process of apoptosis so cells grow uncontrollably. Now iodine plays a key role in apoptosis.
When iodine is at about 100x RDA (approx. 15mg), it produces iodinated lipids called delta-iodolactone, a fat-like substance that is a key regulator of apoptosis.
This is how iodine plays a key role in treating cancer and helping to prevent cancer. And it needs to be at these higher doses in order to achieve these key benefits.
